I came into this world with such pomp and acclaim
With people from everywhere shouting my name
Fireworks flashed and lit up the sky
I felt so proud, wiped a tear from my eye
All 'round the world people vowed to do good
And do all the things that they knew that they should
They were happy and eager to do me one proud
As they made resolutions, and said them out loud
But the cheer it died down just as quick as can be
And pretty soon all had forgotten ‘bout me
The days turned to weeks then to months, soon a year
With promises broken and no more good cheer
Now plans have been made about parties anew
And the people are planning their vows to renew
There’s shopping and wond’ring about what to wear
As people look forward to some other New Year
I sit and remember the songs that were sung
The Champaign, the parties, the trimmings that hung
